THE VINES

Our parcel of 1 ha 14 ares is located entirely in the area known as “Grand-Musigny”.

The vines were all planted between 1947 and 1962, with the exception of a small part (15%) replanted in 1997, whose grapes were downgraded to the Chambolle-Musigny “village” cuvée. Our only cuvée is therefore made from old vines.

Annual production varies between 2000 and 5000 bottles.

The soil varies from the bottom to the top of the hillside. The lower part of the slope is structured like that of Les Amoureuses, although the rock is more fissured, allowing the roots to explore more widely and drain more quickly. The upper part is formed on marly soil lightened by oolitic limestone scree (friable), providing a good water reserve. As a result, this parcel is not very sensitive to summer drought or September rainfall, ensuring that the grapes ripen evenly and fully every year.

THE WINE

Musigny shares with its close neighbour Les Amoureuses the elegance of a richness without heaviness and a similar aromatic palette, but here it is carried by a less vibrant, more sedate body, but of exceptional depth and intensity, with a finish of unequalled length.

It is considered by leading writers to be one of the greatest red wines in Burgundy, along with Chambertin, Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze, Tâche and Romanée-Conti. A preference for one or the other is simply a question of personality and circumstance.

SOMMELIER'S ADVICE

This great wine develops slowly. It takes ten years for it to fully express itself. Its ageing potential in great vintages is almost limitless.
